"The inspiration for the play was seeing a 17th Century damask linen tablecloth which had been handed down through generations of a friend's family. I imagined the person and the occasion which caused its making:
Tabitha is the only child of a rich but rough father, engaged to the son of the local aristocratic family. She is sweet but flighty, and everyone thinks she will settle down as soon as she has a man to her bed and bairns at her knee.
She does love Thomas- gentle, joking, mild Thomas, but then the handsome, mysterious foreigner Pieter de Witt arrives to weave her a cloth the like of which has never been seen in Cumberland...."
We have had to change the venue, but not the date: we will now be at Wheyrigg Hall, and Peter Warren will be playing for us.
Wednesday 26th January at 7.30pm.Wheyrigg Hall is just outside Wigton on the B5302. There is a bar, and bar meals are available but it would be advisable to book in advance. Tickets will be £6.00 and £5.00 for SA members
